とくに、ナスは優れたものが出来たことから「駒込ナス」として江戸庶民に好まれ、徳川幕府が発行した「新編武蔵風土記稿」（１８２８年）にも記されています。農家はナス苗や種子の生産にも力を入れるようになり。タネ屋に卸していました。 現巣鴨駅の北西にある旧中山道にはタネ屋が集まり、さながらタネ屋街道の趣をなし、駒込、滝野川など周辺の農家が優良品種の採種に大きく貢献していました。
